About this app

Shorter paths. More control.

Long Filename & Path Fixer helps you prepare Windows folders for copying, syncing and archiving when long filenames or deeply nested folders get in the way. Find paths above your chosen compatibility target, review the exact proposed names and apply only after confirmation.

START WITH A CLEAR PICTURE
Scan a folder and its subfolders. See current and proposed path lengths, search results, sort by length or depth, and export the complete inventory to CSV. Choose your own target, including 180, 200, 240 or 260 UTF-16 units.

REVIEW BEFORE YOU RENAME
Generate shorter filenames while preserving extensions. Review folder changes, keep manual proposals, and see conflicts or names that need attention. An optional destination field calculates paths for a different root without copying or moving files there.

KEEP A WAY BACK
Local operation journals support undo and recovery after an interrupted batch. The app checks file identities and refuses to overwrite an existing destination. Recovery stops when a conflict needs your attention.

WORK LOCALLY
No app account, advertising, publisher analytics or cloud processing. Scanning and renaming use filesystem metadata; document contents are not read or edited. The interface is available in English and Spanish.

BEFORE YOU START
Keep a backup and close apps using the files. Renaming folders may affect shortcuts, links or projects that reference those paths. A compatibility target is not a universal Windows limit. Symbolic links, junctions and some cloud placeholders are skipped. Folder renames are disabled when a scan is incomplete or omits descendants. Large result views show the first 3,000 matches; CSV includes the full scan.

Designed for Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11 on x64 PCs.
