BatesNest Local privacy policy

Effective date: 29 August 2026

BatesNest Local is designed to process PDF documents locally on the user’s Windows device.

Data the app accesses

The app accesses only PDF files that the user chooses or drops into the app and the output folder the user chooses. To perform Bates numbering, it reads the selected PDF bytes, filenames, file paths, sizes, page counts and page rotations. It calculates SHA-256 hashes of selected and generated files.

Data stored on the device

The app writes numbered PDF copies and JSON/CSV receipts only to the output folder selected by the user. Receipts contain filenames, local file paths, Bates ranges, page counts and SHA-256 hashes. The app also stores one optional settings preset and the last successful next number in local application storage for the current Windows profile.

Collection, transmission and sharing

BatesNest Local does not transmit documents or metadata. It contains no account system, analytics, telemetry, advertising, crash-report upload, cloud storage or network API. The publisher does not receive personal information through the app and does not sell or share app data.

Retention and deletion

The publisher retains no app data because none is transmitted. Users control output retention by moving or deleting the files they created. Optional local settings can be removed by clearing the app’s local profile data or uninstalling and deleting retained application data. Uninstall behavior may depend on the Windows package method.

Security and limitations

Processing is local, but any person or software with access to the selected folders may be able to read their contents. Receipts may reveal sensitive filenames and paths and should be protected like the source documents. SHA-256 hashes are integrity identifiers, not encryption, digital signatures or proof of authorship.

Children

The app is a professional document utility and is not directed to children. It knowingly collects no information from children or any other user.

Changes

Material changes will be reflected in an updated policy bundled with the app and, where required, in the Microsoft Store listing.
